Reasons and key findings for “Opening Moves” responses.
o In the largest proportion of violent incidents,
the "opening move" involved a relatively minor
affront but escalated from there. Few opening moves
were predatory.
o The largest number of incidents took place among
young people who knew each other, and the school or
the home was the place where most incidents began.
o The most common goal was retribution, and the
justifications and excuses offered indicated this
stemmed not from an absence of values but from a
well-developed value system in which violence is
acceptable.
Faces of Change- Your Face could be here too!
The tour guides are mostly teenagers who grew up on the city's north side. They are now members of "Northside Youth Standup!," a group of young people looking to combat violence and other problems in north Minneapolis.
How will you help stop the violence and create a change ?
I will help change by educating the youth about things they can do to stop violence.
